File a Complaint on a Hair Braider with the FDA

The scope of FDA’s regulatory authority is very broad.

FDA’s responsibilities are closely related to those of several other government agencies.

Often frustrating and confusing for consumers is determining the appropriate regulatory agency to contact.

The following is a list of traditionally-recognized product categories that fall under FDA’s regulatory jurisdiction; however, this is not an exhaustive list.

In general, FDA regulates:

Medical Devices, including:

  • simple items like tongue depressors and bedpans
  • complex technologies such as heart pacemakers
  • dental devices
  • surgical implants and prosthetics
  • suture needles

Cosmetics, including:

  • color additives found in makeup and other personal care products
  • skin moisturizers and cleansers
  • nail polish and perfume

To report adverse reactions or other problems with FDA-regulated products, contact the FDA Consumer Complaint Coordinator for the state in which you reside.

Please Note: There is not a Consumer Complaint Coordinator in each state.

Consumer Complaint Coordinators are assigned to a district which may include more than one state.

Therefore, several states may have the same Consumer Complaint Coordinator assigned to them.

If you require the use of a Relay Service, please call the Federal Relay Services at 800-877-8339.

This is a toll free relay service to call Federal agencies from TTY devices.
